Update 10-12-2020: Just an update it''s still working. The only issue that has developed since I got it is the longer the mic is off and charging, it takes forever to turn back on, almost as if it''s dead, but continuously pushing the button it finally turns on

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3-28-2019!! The useless slugs at Microsoft who couldn''t develop their way out of a box released a buggy update at some point since the time I posted this review. The audio quality is dropped down to old telephone quality which sounds really awful. Simply doing the normal method of quality change through the icon on the bottom right and going into properties to change it simply doesn''t work. It always reverts back to telephone. You have to change the quality settings through the control panel route.

Well I''ve had my ModMic from 2016 and never had an issue but I''ve always hated the cable. It was long and rigid so it never really just flowed but, it was a small price to pay for a better headset setup. I was pretty stoked to see it come in a wireless flavor now and I got it for xmas.

    Pros:
    - WIRELESS! Not having that cable....it''s like running around without underwear on. It''s great.

    - Those new magnets, same size but man do they suck that mic down. I really like them.

    - Very simple intuitive controls. All on one button. Tap it to mute, hold it down for a couple seconds for on/off, simple
as that, no extra crap needed.

    - Sound quality is what you''d expect from ModMic

    - Battery life seems to be fine, I just throw mine on a charger when it''s not in use but I went 5ish hours so wasn''t a huge deal. Due to location of the charger you can easily just plug a usb cable into your mic and keep on going, especially if your keyboard has a hub. However, downside will be listed in cons.

    Con:
    - The idea that you can charge your mic while playing, is great, but they give you a bulky rigid usb cable to do so. There''s plenty of soft braided cables out there to make it less a pain to charge while playing, especially for the 120 dollar price tag.

    - The 120 dollar price tag is a bit of a bite to take. I got it for xmas so...I didn''t have to worry about it. I don''t think it''s worth 120 at all given that:

    - The quality feel of things isn''t what I''d expect for a 120 device. The plastics used are cheap and the wireless hub is huge. Plugging it into a hub on your keyboard results in the other port almost not being able to be used. The case it comes in REAKS of burned materials. They claim it''s "normal in the manufacturing process" which is just a cop out excuse for "it''s made in a Chinese factory with awful working conditions because we wanted to make sure we were able to get the most profit out of the 120 we''re charging". Nothing I''ve ever bought smelled like it came out of a burning building before. It''s a piss poor excuse and they should feel ashamed for defending it.

    - The hub only shuts off with the computer, unless you unplug it. Otherwise if you shut your mic off like you should, you get this irritating blue blinking light till you turn the mic back on.

    - QC obviously isn''t there yet as the first one I received was defective. The switch to go to Uni-Directional was broke and didn''t allow sound through so was basically just a mute switch. Pretty pathetic if you ask me, for 120 dollars.

    Other Thoughts:
    - While I do believe there were more cons than pros to this, especially given for the price you''d expect a top tier feeling device, I will say that ModMic was pretty quick to respond to the email I sent after xmas about it. They gave me a list of directions to go through for testing purposes but I felt it was pointless. The mic simply didn''t work when switched, no testing is going to prove that wrong. They offered a replacement free of charge from their site but given it was time sensitive, Amazon overnighted me a replacement which was a better way to go.

Having a wireless mic is pretty awesome, especially if you get a working one (which I did on my 2nd one) but the quality of it, the dead mic on my first order, there isn''t 120 dollars here. Wireless technology is old at this point. Antlion has a very strong following, there is no excuse of "niche product" to charge this much to make up for low sales. Their low sales are going to come from it being so expensive simply because it''s a wireless modmic. Nothing they did is any different than what''s been done in the professional audio industry. Plenty of devices out there that are wireless using the APTX drivers that don''t even cost this much.

    - I''ve included pictures of it attached to both my Audioquest Nighthawks and Focal Elear.

Best wireless headset mic. Period. Never buy a wireless gaming headset ever again.

If a professional headset mic (i.e. my Shure SM35-XLR) is a 10/10, then the wireless ModMic is a solid 8/10 for audio quality. The BEST Logitech headset mic is a 3/10 for audio quality by comparison. That''s the kind of quality jump we are talking about. It sounds fantastic.

There''s absolutely no reason why you should buy a Logitech, SteelSeries or any other wireless gaming headset now that this thing exists. Seriously, just get a quality pair of open-back wireless headphones (recommendations below), attach the Wireless ModMic to it, and have the best sounding wireless gaming headset, and the best sounding headset mic in a relatively inexpensive pairing that you can''t get anywhere else.

If you think getting a $120 wireless mic and a $200 wireless headphones is too much money, consider this. If you buy a gaming headset and if the headphones goes dead, you have to replace the whole thing. If the mic on the headset goes dead, which is usually the first thing to go (my Logitech G933 only lasted 18 months, which has been a normal life cycle for all my wired gaming headsets), then you have to replace the entire headset. With a Wireless ModMic, you only replace the device that fails, not the whole thing. And this mic has no moving parts, so it won''t get damaged as most gaming mics do. All my Sennheiser headphones have lasted for 3-5 years. You are going to be saving more money in the long run, and get a better sounding setup as a result.

As for what headphones to pair this with, I recommend open-back headphones because there''s no possible way to get no-latency sidetone (i.e. being able to monitor or hear your own voice through the headphones) with a ModMic. With open-back headphones you''ll be able to hear yourself talk. I use the Sennheiser HDR 185 wireless headphones. You can buy the open-back Sennheiser headpones individually without the base station, and then buy the Sennheiser RS 175 RF which is the closed-back version of the headphones and the base station that has one or two more features that the station that is normally bundled with the HDR 185 does not have (bass boost, mainly). The RS 175 RF base station and headphones system pairs with the HDR 185 headphones, and it multicasts to both headphones meaning two people can be listening from the same base station at the same time. The ModMic comes with an extra attachment so you can use your ModMic with two headphones. So whenever I want to listen to music closed-back for sound isolation or open-backed so I can hear myself talk, getting one station and the two headphones works well.

But whatever you choose to do attach this great wireless microphone to, just do it. Never buy a wireless gaming headset again. It''s the best sounding wireless mic I have used that is practical. In the past I even tried using wireless lapel mics. It kind of worked, but the transmitter in your pocket is a drag, and the $300 RodeLink had too much hiss in the background. For those two reasons combined I stopped using the wireless headphone/lapel mic solution for high-fidelity communication. Yes, I''ve thought of and tried just about everything to solve the problem of gaming headsets with crappy mics, and the Wireless ModMic solved that problem once and for all.

However, I might have gotten an opened box or a returned pair somehow....... My wireless modmic smelled heavily like cigarettes straight from the box, and the box had definitely seen better days as it looked opened before and a little beat up. I did a bunch of tests with audacity recording and teamspeak, and it seems that everything is ok with the mic and it works as it should. The smell is starting to wear off of it slowly but still a bit disappointed that i got an opened box maybe when i paid for new.

This is the second Mod Mic I''ve ever used, I didn''t like the wires of the older Mod Mics. Mod Mics are still a bit new to me, never used them until I''ve recently upgraded my audio setup for my PC, I wanted to start with a new setup, mostly for longevity (Headphone + separate Mic), instead of traditional headsets. So far this is the most convenient Mic I''ve ever used, because of the seamless wireless connection and of the magnets.

    What''s included:
    - Wireless Mod Mic (Nearly 8 inches)
    - USB Dongle (Slightly below 2.5 inches)
    - USB A to Micro USB charging cable (5 ft)
    - USB Extender cable, for the USB Dongle (3 ft, 4 inches)
    - Zipper carrying storage case
    - 2x Magnetic Base Clamp
    - 2x Sticky circle pads
    - 1x Sticky cable management holder (For your USB Extender cable, if you choose to use it(?))
    - User Manual/Pro Tips sheet
    - "Read this!" Installation Guide paper

    Pros:
    1. You only have to pair the device once - For example, after you restart your PC for an update or something, the Mic and it''s USB dongle will simply auto-reconnect and be ready to use without having you to do anything else.

    2. Wireless Magnetic Connection - Since the Mic is wireless with a magnetic connection, you can simply pull it off and stick it onto any metallic surface that is close to you. Such as your own PC''s case, metal bars on or next to your desk, etc. I think it is useful for situations of when you don''t want to wear the Mic, such as eating at your desk and you don''t want to get your Mic dirty. All you gotta do is pull it off and stick it onto somewhere close to you, when you are done with eating or whatever else, you can just grab it again and pop it back on your headphones.

    3. Usage while Charging - You can also use the Mic while it is charging, for this reason, I recommend to anyone with the Mic to place it on the right side of their headphones. So that the charging port is facing down, it would feel a bit awkward to have the cable coming from the top, and that will force the cable connection to possibly bend and cause damage. But the Mic also comes with 12 hours of battery, so it is unlikely that you will run into the problem of charging it while using it, but mistakes can happen and sometimes we forget to charge it, so it would be a good idea to think ahead, just in case.

    4. Superb Voice Quality - All of my friends says my voice is a lot clearer than before, when I was using headsets. The Mic can go up to "1 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz" in sound settings.

    5. Plug & Play - No software installation required, just plug everything in and it is ready to go.

    6. A really long battery life - Self-explanatory.

Cons (More like "Could be improved" or just inconvenience):
    1. Mute button requires some pressure - The mute button that is in between the 3 lights on the Mic requires quite a bit of pressure to be pressed down. You can''t just lightly push the button to mute, If there''s a level of pressure of between 1-10, with 1 being really light touch and 10 being enough pressure to push your whole head before it activates, I''d say it is at 7.

    2. A really solid adjustable Mic wire - That adjustable wire between (not sure what to call it) the 3 lights and the microphone itself at the front, it is a really solid piece of wire/tube, which is a good thing, but a bit TOO solid. The magnets that hold the Mic up is strong enough to keep it attached, but not enough from external pressure, such as from your hand. So when you want to adjust the mic position, you have to use two hands, otherwise, you would accidentally push the Mic itself off and it would fall off.

    Neutral:
    1. Mic Status - The 3 lights on the Mic indicates Connected (Blue), Muted (Red), and Charging (Yellow), you can''t really see the status of your Mic unless you pull it off and look at it or look at the USB Dongle (Such as muted). You do get a USB extender cable to extend the reach of the USB Dongle, for if you don''t want to plug it straight into your PC''s USB ports. But if you don''t want to use the cable, I would recommend that you plug the Dongle to the frontal or top side of USB ports that are on your PC case, if applicable. In case you don''t want to plug it to the backside, where you can''t see the lights on the Dongle to check status.

A little addition I think that could make it slightly better:

I think the USB Dongle should have a little magnet too, because when you''re not using your mic (completely off), the dongle will just keep blinking until it is reconnected. So to prevent constant usage, they should add a little magnet to the dongle too, so that you can just pull it out of your USB port and stick it onto your PC case, then grab it and plug it back in when you''re using your Mic again.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this Wireless Mod Mic, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is using Headphones + separate Mic setup and wants the freedom of choosing what you want to do with your Mic, it is a lot better than headsets. The Cons & Neutral aren''t much of a deal-breaker to me, they are just things that could be improved to make it an even better Mic.

    Pros:
    - Wireless
    - The ability to swivel the mic
    - Easy to set up and easy to use
    - Clear indicators for mute, charging, and on/off status
    - Offers uni and omni-directional recording

    Cons:
    - The wireless USB receiver''s LED will continue to pulse when the mic is off. Can be annoying if it''s in your line of sight.
    - The grey adhesive pads that hold the magnet to the cans did not want to stick/stay stuck to my AKG K712 Pro headphones. I followed the directions: Cleaned the area, stuck it on firmly, and left it to cure for 24 hours. Unfortunately, when I swiveled the mic up and down, the base clamp fell off the cans. Since my cans don''t have any relatively flat surfaces and they''re a combo of rounded plastic and rounded metal mesh, it wasn''t a good match for the adhesive pad that was supplied. Perhaps a latching system that goes over the middle of the can instead of an adhesive pad stuck to the outside of the can would be a more suitable, long-term solution?
    - The microphone is too sensitive/over amplified. When gaming with friends, they often pointed out that they could pick up my key strokes. Unfortunately, there isn''t an external option to balance the mic with a negative preamp dB gain. Instead, you''re forced to lower the microphone audio levels way, way, way down -- my audio levels were at 4 out of 100. I also tried to use Equalizer APO to add a software -20dB gain. However, even then, setting the mic''s level to anything above a level 7 (out of a 100) to compensate for the negative dB gain would result in severe audio clipping! Switching from onmi to uni-directional helped, but the fidelity of the sound dropped drastically, where uni-directional sounded like I was talking from within a tunnel (distant and hollow).
    - Cheap plastic. There''s a catch 22 here. Keeping the microphone light enough to stay stuck on the headphone, yet sturdy enough to handle some wear and tear. However, that said, for the price, the overall build quality feels a bit cheap. Something you''d find in the $50-$60 dollar range. I asked myself the question: Because it''s wireless... would it justify double the cost over the ModMic 5 or a wired USB cardioid mic? In my opinion, for the options it offers, no.

    Other thoughts:
I was hoping to pair this with some headphones I picked up several years ago while avoiding the hassle of running more wires to my PC. Unfortunately, when I had to use some hockey tape to hold the magnet to the cans, I realized it was time to return this product. Out of curiosity, I looked at the replacement "base clamps" (magnets) and found that they''re selling as a bundle for around $20. I quickly realized there''s a glaring design flaw in the product: the way the mic attaches to the headphone. Factoring in the expected longevity of the base clamps, the cost to replace them, and an inevitable battery depreciation over time, this seems like a recipe for a wallet drainer.

Instead, I decided to go for a cardioid condensor mic, pre-amp, and boom arm setup. While the cost to own such a setup is significantly higher than this product -- for the options it offers: Better overall sound quality, better materials/construction, adjustable audio gain with a negative preamp gain, audio roll off, completely adjustable mic position and swivel around my desk space, a simple power on/off switch, no charging cables, no adhesive clamps, and so on -- it justified the cost difference.

    In conclusion:
I wouldn''t recommend this product over a pair of headphones that come with a built-in swivel mic nor over a pair of headphones with a stand-alone cardioid mic. While this is by no means a terrible product, it''s not a particular good one either. For the price and options, this product misses the mark when there are other better and cheaper wired alternatives out there.

I was using the ModMic 4.0 with my Sennheiser HD800 headphones. Gaming headsets always sound like trash so I was happy that the ModMic gave me good microphone audio without having to compromise headphone quality. The cable was so annoying though. It was rigid and would always get caught under my office chair or tangled with my legs and/or headphone cable. The ModMic Wireless solves those problems.

    PROS:
-It''s wireless. This is the only reason I made the purchase. The cord was really annoying
-The mic can be switched between omni and uni-directional. I found that omni-directional sounded better for me.
-Uses same magnet mount as the wired version. The sticky pads on the magnet mounts aren''t great and replacements are way overpriced so I had to superglue mine to my HD800''s when it fell off. For this reason I''m SO glad the mounts are the same and I don''t have to pry off the superglued magnet.

    CONS:
-My gaming friends said it doesn''t sound as good as the wired version in discord.
-Sticky pads on the magnet mount are weak. Had to superglue it to my headphones after it fell off.
-Price. It costs more than twice as much as my wired ModMic. Seems a bit steep
-You have to have install it on the right side so the charging port faces down if you want to be able to use it while charging with the included USB cable. I hate the mic on the right side so I will never be able to use it cabled/charging.

UPDATE: -1 more star because the battery life is poor. I have had so many times where I''ll be talking in discord and nobody is responding because the microphone died. The 12 hour battery life claim is not true. I get about half of that.

NEW UPDATE: 12 days after the 1-year warranty ran out it started having pairing problems. It would disconnect and become unpaired. Re-pairing would only last seconds to minutes before it would stop pairing again. For the high cost, it shouldn''t have failed so quickly. Also the quickly diminishing battery life was a big downside.

Let''s get this out of the way right up front. The only reason this mic is great and popular with buyers is because there is no other competition for this device.

It sounds pretty good, however that''s about all the "great" aspects of this mic. There are more downsides which will become apparent to you after roughly a week of using it.

The Battery is only good for a few hours at a time. If you are using this for class or work during the day, and gaming in the evening, then you will find that the battery in this microphone will not hold up to the full days use. You will frequently have to charge this thing, and it does not charge fast, having only a MicroUSB connector for charging.

You can use this device while the USB is plugged in, however, Antlion os obviously not familiar that standard hedphones have the cable on the LEFT side. The USB port on this mic points UP if you use it on the left side ear cup, meaning you cannot route the USB cable with the headphone cable, unless you have one of the few headphones out there with a cable on the right side. This is such a simple thing to think about, but only hints at the minimal effort that went into making this an acceptable product.

The mic boom is a rubbery stiff cable allowing you to bend it in any way you choose. However, if you adjust it even slightly, the glue inside the body of the mic breaks, and the mic boom will wiggle ever so slightly.... but it will wiggle. No, there is not a fix unless you tear it down to the circuitboard and re-glue it.

The mic will always turn itself on. Whenever it''s plugged in, whenever it''s unplugged, whenever you hit the button...

Oh... the button. That''s another thing. To turn it off, you have to hold the button for EXACTLY 2 seconds. If you even think about holding that button for 2.00001 seconds, it will go into pairing mode for roughly 45 seconds. Why? Why is there a pairing mode that''s so easy to get to? it can''t pair with other bluetooth devices, it can only pair with the USB dongle, so what''s it even searching for? You will do this EVERY time you want to turn the mic off. I promise you.

Also, the dongle blinks incessantly when the mic is off, so i hope persistent flashing lights don''t bother you, because this thing does not stop blinking!

Overall, the mic has great sound quality, but many of the design choices make it a hard mic to recommend, because the usability of the mic can be just short of maddening.

I guess i''d say it''s a decent mic to get, but the only reason i can say that is because of the decent microphone quality, and because there is literally no other competing mic on Amazon. I would also add, at over $100 USD, i expected a LOOOOT more quality in the build. This thing probably cost $15 for Antlion to make based on the quality of the assembled product.

If you can handle the cabled mics, i''d say go for that, because the convenience of this wireless mic is very short lived...

I switched from my Astro A50s (amazing headphones btw) to a pair of Sennheiser HD-650''s for overall listening and gaming. I needed a mic to add on that would work well, be easy to use, and not be obtrusive. This is it. The mic attached to the HD-650s very easily and securely (comes with an additional mounting pad too), the battery lasts well over 10 hours of active use on a full charge, and the sound is great - I''ve had nothing but praise from those I''m gaming with. The setup was very easy and the hardware is quite robust. I was worried that the foam cover would be too large or that it would be too obtrusive overall, it is not. The dongle is GREAT because I have it plugged into my PC where I can see it in my periphery and when you mute it the mic and the dongle both turn red to confirm. Probably the best part of the whole thing really. The dongle also provides the only downside I''ve found, when it''s turned off and put away/not in use the dongle still slowly flashes blue. It''s very obnoxious, most the time I will leave it on and mute it so the dongle stays a solid red and isn''t distracting. This doesn''t make sense because they could easily turn it off or at the very least use the same pleasant ''breathing'' pattern they use on the yellow light when it''s charging. Totally worth the money though, I would buy again.

This device has been nothing but trouble since I opened the box. I have never in all of my history as a consumer been so upset by how utterly terrible a device was. **Pros** - When it works, it sounds great - The concept is great **Cons** - Constant syncing issues - It often gets itself stuck into a mode where it is attempting to pair with the receiver. It will sit there and blink until the battery runs out. If you try to hold the power button on it to turn it off, it does not work. The only thing that I have found that works is leaving it to run the battery completely dry which takes an extremely long time as it (to its disadvantage in this scenario) has a good battery, and the only thing draining it is that STUPID led on the right side of the headset. - They randomly decided that it would be more optimal to supply you with a case that you will likely never EVER use rather than give you a product life-time supply of the 3M glue/magnet pads that you need to put this thing on a set of headphones. I can appreciate the sentiment but overall, a very stupid decision in my honest opinion. - It will constantly register itself as a new input. So you end up with 8-Antlion modmicXXX where 8 is the number of times it has decided to register a new audio device. This happens on LINUX as well as on windows. I did most of my testing on windows because that is what I want to use this thing for, but with this issue I tried a second operating system to confirm it was not windows being stupid. - Absolutely zero indication that you are about to lose power except through the use of the lights that show up on the side of the headset which you can''t see unless you have alien eyes, or on the USB, which you probably also can''t see if you are a normal human like me and you plugged it into the back of the machine. So your options are either be without a battery indicator OR have a big ugly dongle permanently stuck into the front of your case. If you want a better recommendation than buying this microphone, promptly set two fifties on fire. You will at the very least be much less frustrated than I was having tried to use this STEAMING pile of garbage. If I could give a rating less than 1 out of 5 I would. This product is deserving of a negative 5 out of 5.

Jederzeit wieder.

It was so bad I considered returning it until I saw that there was a product replacement program for ModMic wireless bought after August 2019, and I got in touch with Antlion support to see if they would replace it or if a refund was the better option. I got in touch with them on the 24th of March, I received a reply a few hours later asking for an audio recording to demonstrate the issue, as soon as I sent that recording they authorised a replacement to be sent within a day of first contacting them. The kicker and what impressed me the most is that they did not require me to even go through the effort of returning the original, which I was fully expecting to have to do. It took just 5 days to get the new one, and I am delighted to say that the new one is flawless, the quality is excellent and the range is so much better it''s not even funny, if you order one and you have the range issue others have complained about, then send them an email with a copy of the invoice, and they should be able to help you. The email address you should contact is customerservice@antlionaudio.com It is pricey, and the issue with range was a deal breaker and the fact that the device made it to retail without this issue being picked up is why I can''t give it 5 stars, but the customer support I received was exemplary, and the new one is fantastic for audio quality and range, and for those reasons I''m leaving it a 4 out of 5.

Bought the Antlion Audio ModMic Wireless for use with MS Teams as working from home is becoming the new normal and on first use the sound and build quality is excellent. The mic is fairly lightweight and comes with a sturdy magnetic mount for use with any headset. Only two small issues with the ModMic, the first is that there is a single button to turn off, mute and pair so when trying to turn it off, if you are a bit slow, can put the mic into pairing mode or too quick it just toggles the mute. The second issue is with the USB receiver module is a bit bulky and can only be used with full size USB A type ports and the width can cover multiple ports if they are close together. The included extension lead does go some way to help with this issue though. Although the first mic that arrived had a fault the support staff at both Antlion and Amazon helped and a replacement was sent out immediately. Overall, very happy with both the microphone and the service.
